What happens when something captures your imagination on an almost molecular level? …The FingerSTYLE Movie happens that’s what. It’s strange to think that we are now approaching the one year mark since I first started working on this back in 2014. I’m intensely proud of what we have achieved given the limited resources. Pretty much the whole Kickstarter campaign, launch video, communications and marketing were created on a 4 year old Macbook Air – the little engine that could. We’ve done very well to get where we are, but we are a long way from home.
Sharpening the Axe
So what have we been doing for the last few months since getting back from the trip I hear you asking? Well understanding what we are trying to say for the most part. While the molecular level effect I mentioned earlier is still very much a thing for me, that doesn’t help us structure a narrative. Only some deeper level of understanding and analysis will do that… So that is what we have spent the last few months grappling. Watching the footage, looking for themes, connecting the dots to try and tell the story behind the story…what is really at stake here.
There is a great quote by Abraham Lincoln. It has always stayed with me for some reason. I think as it validates the procrastinator in me, but also the patient executioner.
Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe– Abraham Lincoln
It’s funny wise sage Maneli Jamal shared a story with us in his interview for the movie that is along these lines. An anecdote that forever changed the way he approaches his instrument. It’s a really neat story. Hear a snippet from that below
The axe is sharp my friends.
